Stewart Mungo and son, Matt, recently took lunch to the fire crew at the Ballentine
Fire Station to show our appreciation for avoiding disaster at the Mungo corporate
office on Western Lane in Columbia. A fire started late afternoon on Friday, August
8 after all employees had left for the weekend.
A quick-thinking motorist on I-26
called for help. After parking on the road shoulder and hopping the fence to access
the frontage road, James Williams with SCDOT Incident Response was first on the scene.
The fire crew arrived shortly thereafter to contain and extinguish the blaze.
Thankfully, minimal damage occurred.
