Mungo Family Donates Land to County

Pursuant to a request by Richland County Council Chairman Joe McEachern,
the Mungo family has agreed to donate 185 acres of woodland property to
Richland County. This donation is in response to a challenge to the
community by Councilman McEachern to protect and conserve land and
historic sites.
This parcel is located in Northeast Columbia near Blythewood, and is
adjacent to Sandlapper Elementary and Longleaf Middle Schools. This
land could be used for interpretive learning centers, ball fields,
or preserved as green space, according to Stewart Mungo and
Chairman McEachern.
Councilman McEachern established the “Growing Green in District 7”
as a voluntary historic preservation and community conservation program.
Councilman McEachern explains, “As our community grows, we want to
ensure that the outstanding quality of life in District 7 is maintained
for all our residents. We embrace the efforts to help us protect our
land, our streams, and our historic sites.” Councilman McEachern has
been very supportive of efforts to secure other highly environmentally
sensitive areas in the county. He is currently working with Councilman
Jackson on the securing an environmentally sensitive parcel in
Lower Richland.
The Mungo family has been developing land and building new homes for
families since 1954. This donation is just one of many company-wide
initiatives to preserve the environment.
