Columbia, SC. For the second year, Mungo Homes is pleased to sponsor the Oliver Gospel Mission's annual “Heart for the Homeless Hope-A-Thon" to be held Thursday, April 14th at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in downtown Columbia. With the goal of raising awareness as well as donations, proceeds from the ‘Hope-A-Thon’ will go towards sustaining current Oliver Gospel Mission programs as well as expanding efforts for future projects.
“Last year we were blessed in that the event went off without any problems, we had great sponsors and we were able to raise a significant amount of donations for mission projects. This year we hope to build from last year’s momentum for an even bigger turnout from the Midlands community,” commented Beth Well, Director of Stewardship Services and Public Relations for the Oliver Gospel Mission. “The main point we want to convey to those considering a donation is that every single dollar we receive is put to good use, and we are just as thankful for a five dollar donation as we are for a $100 donation.”
The event will run from 6:00am to 7:00pm at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, located in The Vista in downtown Columbia. Midlands’s residents can contribute to the effort by dropping off monetary donations, household goods and clothing items at the convention center or by calling into the Verizon Wireless Phone Bank April 14th from 6am – 7pm at (803) 351-0333. Midlands’s residents can also visit olivergospelmission.org and conveniently donate online.
For more than 122 years the Oliver Gospel Mission has strived to see that the broken and homeless are sheltered, given the gospel of Jesus Christ and equipped to live responsibly. The state’s oldest shelter, and the sixth oldest shelter in the United States, the Oliver Gospel Mission ministers to the community homeless by providing meals, shelter, clothing and spiritual direction. The mission’s sole means of support comes from donations made by private individuals, area business and church organizations.
