Columbia, SC. Brothers Stewart and Steven Mungo recently unveiled the portrait they commissioned of their late father and company founder, Michael J. Mungo.
Shortly after their father’s passing in April 2010, the brothers commissioned nationally-renowned portrait artist Michael Del Priore to capture their father’s likeness. Del Priore, a Columbia native, got his start when he painted Senator Strom Thurmond and, among his commissions, has painted Bill Gates as well as hundreds of political figures.
The portrait of Mr. Mungo will hang at the Mungo corporate office in Irmo, South Carolina where it was unveiled amidst Mungo family members – including the late Mr. Mungo’s beloved dog Spring – and dozens of employees.
Mr. Mungo founded the Michael J. Mungo Company in 1954 and was a pioneer in developing neighborhoods and building new homes throughout the Midlands. To date, more than 12,000 homes carry the Mungo legacy and the Mungo family of companies was recently ranked the 35th largest builder in the country by Builder magazine. Brothers Stewart and Steven Mungo, the late founder’s sons, remain at the helm today.
