Protect Your New Home!

  • Replace Merve-8 air filters every 30 days.
  • Replace batteries in smoke detectors every 6 months, and test them periodically.
  • Take advantage of Mungo's programmable thermostats! Frequent changing of the thermostat can waste energy.
  • Make sure the outside HVAC unit is clear of overgrown plants or other yard debris.
  • Blocking air registers and returns may restrict airflow.
  • Never pour grease into the kitchen drain or disposal.
  • To avoid clogging, occasionally remove and clean the stopper in the tub and sink drains.
  • Protect pipes in the winter time by never turning the heat below 65° F. 
  • In case of a deep freeze, open cabinet doors on exterior walls to expose pipes to heat in the house.
  • When a drain pipe is clogged the first attempt to relieve it should be with a plunger.
  • Keep gutters and downspouts free of leaves and debris.
  • Divert water from downspouts away from the foundation by keeping splash blocks beneath the openings.
  • Test Ground Fault Circuits periodically.
  • Always use the recommended wattage bulb for a light fixture.
  • Use a vacuum to clean dust from the cover of smoke detectors..
  • Never wet mop a hardwood floor but use the manufacturer’s recommended cleaning method.
  • Check the caulking on the exterior of the home yearly and reapply as needed.
  • Check the bathroom caulking yearly and reapply as needed.
  • Use caution in setting the temperature of your water heater to prevent scalding.
  • Grind lemon rinds in the disposal to help eliminate foul odors.
  • Always have water running when using disposal.
  • Never turn on a microwave when it is empty.
  • Foundation vents should remain open at all times except in the event of extreme cold.
  • Keep weep holes in brick walls clean and clear.
  • Check electrical cords for damage and breaks before use.
  • GFCI receptacles should not be used for major appliances.
  • Make sure the condensation line from your AC unit is clean and clear.
  • New sod needs to be watered daily for the first two weeks.
  • Dormant sod needs water, too!
  • Make sure you know how to turn off the water supply, just in case.
  • Check washing machine hoses to make sure they are in good condition.
  • Make sure dryer vent has not been obstructed.
  • Be cautious during winter months as ice easily forms on concrete surfaces.
  • Do not place flammables in the crawl space.
  • Maintain your termite bond and renew it annually.
  • Do not mix ammonia and household bleaches -- a chemical reaction could occur.
  • Be sure to run the bathroom exhaust fan every time you shower.
  • If you are not sure, "hire a professional."
  • Keep a first aid kit on hand.
  • Have a fire extinguisher on hand.
