The Mungo Difference

Mungo Homes is family-owned and operated so we don’t answer to a stuffy board of directors or anonymous stockholders! The Mungo family is involved in the day to day operations of land development and new home building, and dedicated and accessible to our buyers and home owners. As proof that we believe in our own "product," many of our employees live in the neighborhoods in which we build. Just as neighbors take care of one another, you'll be able to count on Mungo as much after the close as during the buying and building process.

Community Involvement

Michael J. Mungo came from humble beginnings so, once he'd become successful, he established a legacy of giving back to the very community responsible for that success. Today, the Mungo family carries on that tradition and is a leader in the community—giving millions of dollars to support our military efforts, education, and most especially, human needs organizations that provide housing, healthcare, and feed the hungry. In addition, the Mungo family has donated land for schools, churches, and parks and recreation facilities.

While it is the joy on the face of a first time homeowner that's most rewarding for us, we are still proud of the awards and recognition we've received over the years. In addition to the hundreds of awards for great home designs, an excellent customer experience, and creative marketing efforts, there are a few awards that truly set us apart from both public and privately-owned builders:

In 2012, Builder magazine named Mungo Homes America’s Best Builder for overall achievement in housing and excellence in design, quality construction, customer service, community/industry support, marketing, and finance/operations. There were four winners for 2012, based on number of closings and Mungo Homes was selected as America’s Best Builder in the category with the highest number of closings. This award is the highest honor a home builder can receive.

Mungo Homes was also recognized as the 2012 National Green Advocate of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders for our innovative hauSmart program.  Ensuring that each home we build is healthier for you and the environment, includes energy and money-saving components, as well as many convenience features to make life more enjoyable, the hauSmart program is exclusive to Mungo, and one of the first of its kind developed by any builder.

In 2008, Mungo Homes was awarded the National Housing Quality Award, another one of home building industry’s highest recognitions for quality achievement and operational excellence. Mungo is the only South Carolina-based builder ever recognized with this achievement.

Mungo has also been an annual recipient of the Builder of Integrity Award, granted by Quality Builders Warranty Corporation. This award acknowledges a commitment to excellence in customer experience and quality construction.

Just like the economy, there have been ups and downs in the housing industry throughout the years. While both national and local builders have come and gone, Mungo Homes has weathered the economic storms better than most—not only surviving during tough times, but expanding into markets in four states across the Southeast.

Mungo’s financial stability, in part, stems from being a family business with the founder’s sons at the helm, both remaining involved on a daily basis. Our leadership staff carefully manages land investments, monitors buyer interests, leads the industry in innovation, and assembles the best team to build the best home possible.
