Operation: Coming Home Mungo Homes Gives Back to a Wounded Warrior
A New Home for a Local Hero
Mungo Homes is excited to announce its selection as a “Hero Homebuilder” for Operation: Coming Home. In collaboration with the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and the United States Veterans Corps, Mungo Homes will build a house for a local service member who has been severely wounded. The home, which will be customized to meet his needs based on his injuries, is located in Renaissance at White Oak in Garner, NC, and will be 100 percent donated to the veteran as a small token of gratitude for his service.
“We are honored to play a part in Operation: Coming Home alongside the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and the U.S. Veterans Corps,” said Mungo Homes Raleigh Market President, Adam Speiran. “This is an incredible opportunity to give back to those who have served our country and provide them with the American dream of home ownership. It’s the smallest way for us to show our gratitude and we hope to be a part of this program for years to come.”
About the Project
Born and raised in Southern California, US Army Green Beret SFC Eddie Kim was injured during a training event at Fort Bragg, NC in December 2024. On February 25, 2025, SFC Kim, along with his wife, Valetina, were notified of his family’s new home during a surprise reveal at a VA hospital in Richmond, Virginia where he was undergoing treatment. SFC Kim and Mrs. Kim visited the Mungo Homes Design Center in April, meeting with Design Coordinator Kasumi Lehman to make design selections for their new home, including cabinets, countertops, flooring, and lighting.
The home will start in mid-June with several milestone events planned for the couple, along with members of the US Veterans Corps, the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County, Mungo Homes. After completion of the home this fall, the key will be presented to the Kims, fittingly, on Veteran’s Day, Tuesday, November 11th.
About Operation: Coming Home
Operation: Coming Home began in 2007 and was the brainchild of a group of local veterans and members from the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. In 2008, Operation: Coming Home collaborated with several homebuilders and developers to build its first hero home for Sgt. Joey Bozik to help him and his family live a normal life despite his combat injuries. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 30, 2008, in Fuquay-Varina, and since then, the initiative has continued to grow its success, helping dozens of local veterans. The Mungo Homes Hero Home will be the 29th home constructed in the program.
