New home office by Mungo Homes

October 15, 2020

This year has brought many changes to the way we live our lives, including where we work and go to school. Whether your family is already working and learning from home or may be at some point in the future, it can be stressful when you don’t have the proper spaces designated for focus and concentration.

Mungo Homes has always prioritized building functional homes for real families, and that includes flex spaces that can be used to meet your ever-changing needs. Most of our floor plans have flex space, a designated home office, bonus room or additional bedroom that would come in handy during this time. We’ve included a few tips below to make the most of your virtual learning and working spaces.

Lighting is key

Working in darker, drab spaces can take a huge toll on your productivity, energy and even brain function. Studies confirm that spending too much time in dim areas, such as poorly lit working spaces, could actually change the structure of your brain—including how you retain information and learn new things.

To prevent that from happening, it’s important that your family’s work- and learn-from-home areas are well-lit. While a naturally-lit room with windows is preferred, soft overhead lighting and desk lamps can help keep things light and bright as well.

Serene and studious colors

You should never underestimate the impact your paint color choices have on your home. Colors are known to have certain psychological effects, and the wrong one can leave you and your family feeling uninspired with work and school.

White represents cleanliness and leaves people surrounded by it feeling refreshed and focused. Warmer shades of white help make a room feel cozier and more comfortable. Gray is a classic and popular color for home interiors, being a perfect neutral base to add your personal style to. It’s also a classic, elegant color that symbolizes intelligence and discipline—exactly what you need for a functional home office or workspace. Tans and light shades of brown represent security and contentment, which give way to a calming presence that anyone at home can benefit from.

Clean and clutter-free space

Perhaps the biggest benefit of working and learning from home is the ability to have complete control of the space you’re spending so much of your time in. In addition to a designated space, adequate lighting and the right paint colors, keeping the area clean and clutter-free will make the online experience so much better. If you need to store things in the same room you work, a well-organized shelving system or filing cabinet can keep clutter out of sight. Besides a desk, comfortable working chair and storage system, keep furniture minimal and out of the way. With less clutter and a less-cramped room, your brain will feel less cluttered as well.

With all the added stress of working and learning alongside your family, it’s more important than ever to have a calm and secluded environment to separate the rest of your life from your 9-to-5. If you’re looking for a home in the Carolinas or Georgia with more functional living space, Mungo Homes can help. Whether you want a quick-move-in option or to help build your home from the ground up, we can guide you through the process today.
