Operation: Coming Home Hero Home #29 Gets Underway in Raleigh!June 20, 2025

June 20, 2025

In collaboration with the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and the United States Veterans Corps, Mungo Homes officially kicked off construction of Operation: Coming Home Hero Home #29 with a heartfelt and patriotic flag-raising ceremony. The event honored Hero Home recipient U.S. Army Green Beret Sergeant First Class Eddie Kim, who was paralyzed during a training exercise at Fort Bragg in December 2024. Sgt. Kim is receiving an accessible home, customized to meet the needs of his injuries, at no cost through the Operation: Coming Home initiative in recognition of his service and sacrifice.

On Thursday, June 19th, Mungo Homes team members, vendors, trade partners and community leaders joined Sgt. Kim and his wife, Valentina, at the homesite in Mungo Homes’ Renaissance at White Oak community in Garner, NC. The ceremony included a live rendition of the National Anthem by Adam Lee Decker, remarks from Garner Mayor Buddy Gupton and Sgt. Kim, a ceremonial flag raising, and the first pour of the home’s foundation.

“Being a part of Operation: Coming Home and building Hero Home #29 is incredibly meaningful to the entire Mungo Homes team,” said Mungo Homes Raleigh Market President Adam Speiran. “Today’s ceremony symbolized more than the start of construction; it was a powerful community tribute to one of our local heroes. We are proud to stand with the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County and the United States Veterans Corps to give Sgt. Kim and his family a home, while representing a shared commitment to honoring those who serve our country.”

Upon completion of Hero Home #29, Sgt. Kim and Valentina will receive the keys during a special Veterans Day ceremony. Past key presentation ceremonies have included helicopter flyovers, paratroopers parachuting keys down to the homesite, and patriotic musical performances.

Operation: Coming Home began in 2007 and was the brainchild of a group of local veterans and members from the Home Builders Association of Raleigh-Wake County. Since the first groundbreaking ceremony was held in 2008, the initiative has continued to grow its success year after year, helping dozens of local veterans.
